Master of Library and Information Science or MLIS or M.Li.Sc. or M.Lib. in Distance Education is a professional postgraduate course that covers an advanced study of the principles and practices of Library Science and Library Administration along with the current technologies involved therein. Also termed as MLIS, the course essentially includes the study of collection management, information systems and technology, research methods, cataloguing and classification, preservation, reference, statistics, database management, information architecture and knowledge management, etc.
The course aims to prepare eligible candidates to adequately and productively act as data experts in libraries and data roles. Aspirants have to design and develop information systems, contribute to the discipline of Library and Information science in terms of research and teaching.
MLIS in Distance Education Course teaches students to evaluate situations to determine the best technical solution and effectively utilize technology to add value to the field. They are also familiarised with techniques to assess how changing technologies impact the field.
